Richard is a licensed attorney and CPA. He received his undergraduate degree in accounting from Arizona State University and practiced in public accounting for a number of years before attending Rutgers University Law School. Upon graduating law school, Richard joined Husch & Eppenberger and subsequently became a partner in the Springfield office of Husch Blackwell. At Husch Blackwell, Richard concentrated his practice in ERISA/qualified plans and estate and tax planning. Prior to joining Missouri Trust & Investment Company, Richard was President, General Counsel and Director with Ollis/Akers/Arney an employee-owned insurance and risk management firm with offices in Springfield and Branson.

Richard assists clients with corporate and family governance and advises family groups on managing closely-held businesses and the trust/estate and philanthropic interests of the group.

Interests and Activities

Richard has served in leadership roles with many Springfield non-profits and service clubs and is passionate about helping these organizations serve their constituents. Currently, Richard serves on the Board of Directors of the Library Foundation, the Board of Trustees of The Kitchen, the Board of Directors of Leadership Springfield, and is a member of the Metro Springfield Community Innovation Grant Committee. Richard is active in his church and serves as a Mass Reader and Eucharistic Minister in addition to participating in a number of different service groups. Richard was recognized as one of the Springfield Business Journal’s “40 Under 40” in Southwest Missouri and the Sunrise Club Rotarian of the Year in 2008. Richard is a member of Leadership Springfield Class XXIII, has served on the Board of Directors and is a member of the Greene County Estate Planning Council and received the Springfield Metropolitan Bar Association President's Award in 2007.

Richard’s wife, Nicole, is a second grade teacher at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton elementary school. In addition to a parakeet and rescue lab mix, Richard and Nicole have one daughter, Taylor Rae, who attends Springfield Catholic High School. Richard enjoys spending his free time with his family, usually doing some form of outdoor recreation or sport, and considers himself an amateur BBQ pit master.
